If someone said artificial intelligence a few years ago, one would think they were talking about a Science Fiction film. The truth is, AI is now not only a reality, but it is part of our daily lives. The maps you use for navigation, your phone's facial detection, and even your favourite social media site. AI is everywhere, and you may not even know it. So why does it still astound me that this technology is now moving to medicine? I mean, it makes sense; but this feat of human engineering is still mind-boggling.
According to the latest reports, 459 active high-growth companies are in this sector, collecting over £2.1 billion of investment and raising £95 million worth of grant funding in the last ten years. These companies range anywhere from data management to workflow processes to disease detection.
The emergence of cloud storage, which makes it easier for doctors to access and exchange medical information, has been a significant development in this field of technology. For instance, Coordinate My Care has created software exclusively for the NHS that enables electronic documentation of patient care plans and preferences while also establishing communication between all healthcare providers associated with a patient.
People in the field have also benefited from the use of analytics-based technology, thanks to businesses like Abtrace that use artificial intelligence to streamline procedures. The London-based company recognises trends across electronic health data using analytical technologies, including machine learning, to guide proactive care.
By the way, could you tell those last two paragraphs were written by AI? Neither could I. AI is becoming a lot smarter than you think. What’s great is that we work in this sector every day. We get to hear and be a part of this groundbreaking technology by linking the people who change the world to the organisations that do it.
It’s what we’ve done for the last 30 years and what we plan to do for the next 30 years and beyond until the machines take over, at least!
