Scientist Target Validation Group - Cell Biologist
Our client is a medical research charity that is helping scientists and organisations turn their research into treatments and diagnostics for patients by bringing together a network of partners to tackle specific diseases and by directly funding academic and early stage research.
Their location in Stevenage operates at the interface between academic research and the drug discovery industry, where they take novel academic targets and generate lead stage small molecules and therapeutic antibodies for indications with unmet medical need.
The Biology Group supports both small molecule and antibody projects, working closely with the Chemistry and Biotherapeutics Groups. Within the Biology Group we are looking for a Scientist to join the Target Validation Group, to provide support for our on-going drug discovery projects.
In this lab-based role, you will work as part of a team of biologists, collaborating with internal and external scientists to establish cell based and biochemical assays to support hit-to-lead chemistry and antibody generation/humanisation programmes. You will also conduct experiments to validate targets, define and confirm mechanism of action and establish disease linkage.
Who you are
You will be a Graduate or qualified to PhD level with relevant laboratory industry experience and technical knowledge in the areas of cell and molecular biology. You will have expertise in culturing cell lines and primary cells and at developing and running cell-based assays. Experience in co-culture techniques, gene-editing technologies, immuno-oncology assays, phenotypic screening, the use of high-content imaging equipment, FACS analysis and data management and analysis software would also be advantageous.
You will be a strong communicator able to communicate with both internal teams and external collaborators. You will demonstrate good attention to detail and accuracy, and be available to start at relatively short notice.
Your salary will be determined by qualifications and experience. In addition, we also offer a defined contribution pension scheme, private health insurance, a flexible benefits scheme and 31 days paid holiday per year.
