Virtual Assessment Centres: w/c 22nd November 2021

Who we are…

We are a self-funded medical research charity.
We have ambition to positively impact patient needs.
We have licensed medicines and a diagnostic test already developed by our scientists.

If this sounds like something you’d like to be a part of LifeArc might just provide the perfect fit for you.

At LifeArc, we work at the cutting edge of Translational Science. As a medical research charity, we have a 25-year legacy of helping scientists and organisations seek out new ways to transform great science into greater patient impact.

We exist to advance early science into health care treatments and diagnostics that can be taken through to full development and made available to patients as quickly as possible. We have our own drug discovery and diagnostics development facilities, supporting our science strategy to transform the way patients are diagnosed, treated, and supported.

We also know that the key to success is collaboration. That’s why we partner with medical research charities, research organisations, industry, and academic scientists. Bridging the gap between patient need and novel scientific opportunity is what motivates us - and we do this by integrating our three core translational offerings: science, advice, and external funding.

Ultimately, we’re driven by our purpose – to put patients at the centre of all we do. It’s about fostering innovation, believing in the power of collaboration, and always acting with integrity. When we get it right, we achieve excellence.

It all means we’ve built the kind of culture that can help you translate your own potential into something incredible too.

The Opportunities…..

We are seeking highly motivated, creative individuals with a focus on scientific rigour and who can contribute to the continual development of our discovery processes. There are multiple roles across our Protein Production team and our Cellular Sciences team, which are at Scientist and Senior Scientist levels, but we’re also interested to hear from recent Graduates who would come in at the Associate Scientist level and would welcome your application:

Protein Scientists, (antigen generation):

As a member of the Protein Production and Developability team, you will be part of a Core Platform that supports all our antibody related activities antibody production (comprising upstream and downstream), biophysical QC/developability and protein-based reagent (antigen) generation, all of which is conducted to an industry-like template. You will work closely with our project teams generating various antibody formats as well as a wide range of protein targets.

  • Design constructs (using predictive and/or structural-based tools) for recombinant protein production

  • Express target proteins using mammalian-based expression systems

  • Purify target proteins using FPLC (AKTA)-based systems

  • Perform relevant structural and/or functional QC to include kinetics, light scattering, HPLC-SEC, circular dichroism, fluorescence and/or ELISA

  • Deliver high-quality reagents for the purpose of antibody generation (immunisation) and antibody screening according to agreed timelines.

Why you?

You will have a background in protein construct design, expression, purification, and standard biophysical characterisation techniques. Additional experience in protein engineering and/or structural biology (analysis) would be beneficial. In addition, you thrive in a collaborative environment and have the mindset to tackle difficult and challenging targets. You will have a PhD or a BSc with proven expertise in protein production.

Senior Scientist (Immunology) Cellular Sciences

The Cellular Science Team support projects across the LifeArc portfolio. Team members can be involved in activities ranging from target validation, development of screening assays and screening campaigns, through to cellular profiling of molecules in recombinant systems and development and implementation of physiologically relevant/pharmacologically predictive assays to deliver antibody and small molecule assets for partnering.

As a Senior Scientist in the Cellular Sciences Team, you will work as part of project teams independently developing and performing cell-based assays. You will be supporting our immuno- oncology portfolio and so you will need to have a strong immunology background, and this position will give you the opportunity to collaborate with scientists not only in LifeArc but also across our alliances.

  • Lab-based scientist delivering complex cell-based assays to support target validation and mechanism of action studies as part of our immuno-oncology portfolio

  • Provide direction for the scientific rationale of projects you are working on both internally and in discussion with collaborators

  • Train and mentor others to run assays you have designed and generated

  • Achieve scientific visibility through contribution to project and alliance meetings, and impact on the delivery of projects against portfolio milestones.

Why you?

You will have an immunology background and proven ability to lead the scientific rationale of a project or specific scientific aspects of that project as well as having a broad knowledge of drug development approaches. You will be educated to post-Doctoral level with several years’ relevant laboratory experience, and you will be able to demonstrate your ability to collaborate and achieve shared objectives.

Scientists, Cellular Sciences

As a scientist in the Cellular Sciences team, you will work as part of a project team collaborating with internal and external scientists to establish and iteratively conduct cell-based assays to support hit-to-lead chemistry and antibody generation/humanisation programmes. You will also perform experiments to validate novel targets emerging from collaborations with leading academic collaborators, define and confirm mechanism of action and establish disease linkage.

  • Lab-based scientist working with others to deliver cell-based assays to support ongoing projects across the LifeArc portfolio

  • Generation of reagents and cell lines

  • Supporting screening and hit validation studies for small molecule programs

  • Support antibody discovery and development screening campaigns

Why you?

You will typically be a graduate in a biology-based discipline and have worked in a discovery laboratory environment, or an early career PhD, and have a track record in biomedical research. You will have a clear understanding of drug discovery, and the potential impact on healthcare.

About us…

We do more than just help patients. We also want to make Life@LifeArc the best it can be for our people, too. So, during your time here, you will also be able to make the most of our commitment to helping everyone keep pace with a fast-evolving world, while staying successful, healthy, and well - in and out of work.
