Job description


We have an excellent long term contract opportunity for a Project Planner to work for our prestigious Power generation client at their office in Staffordshire.
The ideal candidate will be a professional planner, with extensive planning, P6 environment, and cost control experience.
Site experience AND electrical substation experience would be perfect.
Site experience and any electrical experience is a must.

Purpose of the Job
The planner is a member of the tender / project core team:
* She / he drives owns the project schedule and tender and project execution schedules to maximise results, whilst delivering the project on time, within budget, in conformity with the contract and managing the customer expectations.
* She / he has is part of the Project Controls function and is expected to manage project schedules in accordance with the established global process, tools, metrics and operating rhythms .
* The planner will be based on construction site and will mainly focus on site activities (but not only) in full coordination with other planners of the project.
Role & responsibilities:
* She/he is key member of the project team providing schedule status to the PM
* Develop tender schedules using the established tools and processes and challenges the team to ensure schedule risk is managed with a balance of competitive offering aligned to historical performance
* Develops and maintains the single project schedule representing the entire project by integrating inputs from all functions , units and third parties contributing to the project
* Ensure proper linkages in schedule to show all inter-dependencies between contributing parties
* Delivers a high quality schedule aligned with global standards to ensure project is accurately represented
* Maintains schedule through the entire project obtaining inputs from all project contributors
* Provides schedule analysis to determine project schedule risks and opportunities than works with project team members to drive risk mitigation strategies
* Provides look ahead, backlog and future late reporting with prioritisation to clearly communicate potential and real risk and drive the project priorities
* Provides regular status reporting with forecasting and analytics to project team members
* Provides contractually required customer reporting and is able to communicate directly with customers on scheduling matters
* Generates "what if" scenarios to optimise execution and works with project teams to evaluate feasibility
* Aligns with cost controlling function to ensure clear alignment between cost and schedule to ensure accurate
* Support change order analysis with schedule analytics and forecasts
* Organise/lead timely Planning Reviews with project team, to share all schedules issues and define/validate mitigation plan
* Load resources into the project schedule
* Support disputes and analysis of claims
* Vital for the planner to frequently and clearly communicate the project status to all project participants , especially PM. And escalate issues/risks to ensure properly addressed
* Significant coordination work with site sub-contractors and site supervisors

Measurement/Deliverables
- Schedule quality and alignment to established global standards
- Internal Schedule (with visible Critical Path) timely updated, measured and controlled
- Client Schedule timely updated, measured and controlled
- Schedules KPIs and Reports regularly updated
- Schedules slippages and risks and opportunities pro-actively identified and reported to PD/PMs and project team.
- Planning reviews organised with the defined periodicity and with reports issuance.
- Schedules and Schedules Reports, issued on time
- Planning used as project monitoring tool:
- relevant and understandable schedule used by project team
- schedules KPIs and Reports used in Project Management dashboard for project monitoring

Candidate Requirements
Graduate Engineer
Background in Project Management. Could be part of the graduate certificate or independent training

Experience & Skills
As part of a project team, 5 years minimum of experience in planning management,
* Application of planning control principles(WBS, critical path ,progress)
* Application of planning tools (MS-project and/or Primavera)
* including interfaces with Cost control, and workload management
* As a plus:
o Carried out organisational and strategic planning process would be appreciated
o Carried out Planning integration principles and methods
o Carried out Contract management: made EOTs and supported negotiations
o Carried out Risks management
o Carried out Schedules "what if" analysis
o Has Experience in Substations and construction site activities

This role is expected to run for at least 12 months. Due to our client's IR35 policy we are only able to progress with those able to operate on a PAYE or Umbrella option basis
