Scientific IT Industrial Placement Student

We are looking to recruit an undergraduate for an industrial placement year within the IT team. The placement project will be a technology development role focused on the use of Natural Language Processing and related technologies for cognitive data search and exploration of unstructured data within Data Lakes.
This is a unique opportunity to work on some of the most interesting and challenging issues within informatics and the Life Sciences, working in a highly innovative environment that encourages experimentation. With access to internal, external, academic and industrial experts and partners, a modernised cloud computing infrastructure and resources to invest in novel technologies this is a highly exciting project for the right candidate.
The role will involve programming skills and an understanding of the Life Sciences, and we are looking for either candidates currently undertaking a BSc or MSc in IT, computer science or related field, with a demonstrable interest in or background with biology or chemistry. Experience with, or an interest in Apache Spark, Scala or related technologies would be highly desirable, as would the ability to work across disciplines.
Your salary will be determined by qualifications and experience. In addition, LifeArc offers a defined contribution pension scheme, private health insurance, a flexible benefits scheme and 31 days paid holiday per year.
