Who we are
LifeArc is a medical research charity with a 25-year legacy of helping scientists and organisations turn their research into treatments and diagnostics for patients.
LifeArc's Centre for Diagnostics Development (CDD) operates at the interface between academic research and the diagnostic industry. We offer collaborative diagnostic assay development and validation, helping translate early-stage diagnostic research through to its commercial exploitation and use in the clinic.
The CDD team support a wide range of diagnostic technologies with a current focus on developing molecular diagnostics where there is an unmet clinical need in areas such as infectious disease, oncology, and inflammatory disease. Our current projects include the development, verification and validation of qPCR and digital PCR assays, as well as Next Generation Sequencing pipelines.
Who you are
We are seeking highly motivated, well-organised scientists to help contribute to the design, assessment, and verification of a wide range of diagnostic development projects. You will be comfortable moving between projects, developing new skills, and working with support from our team of highly experienced scientists.
Applicants should be confident with standard molecular biology laboratory techniques (e.g. DNA and RNA isolation), and possess a thorough working knowledge of PCR and qPCR. Demonstrable skills in NGS library preparation and sequencing technologies, experience with digital PCR or protein-based assay methods, or experience in in silico assay design could be advantageous.
Given the nature of the work, we are looking for scientists who have a meticulous attention to detail and a proven ability to troubleshoot technical issues, both independently and as part of a team. Excellent communication skills are essential for maintaining comprehensive electronic lab notebook reports and presenting work to key stakeholders both within and outside the organisation.
You will be educated to BSc, MSc or PhD level in molecular biology, genetics, or a closely related discipline. Industry experience would be beneficial, as would experience of working in a clinical or ISO-accredited laboratory environment.
Your salary will be determined by qualifications and experience. In addition, LifeArc offers a defined contribution pension scheme, private health insurance, a flexible benefits scheme and 31 days paid holiday per year.
