LifeArc is a medical research charity with a 25-year legacy of helping scientists and organisations turn their research into treatments and diagnostics for patients.

We are pioneering new ways to turn great science into greater patient impact and do so by bringing together a network of partners to tackle specific diseases and by directly funding academic and early stage research.

The Role

The Opportunity Assessment Group (OAG) provides a central resource for LifeArc, researching and analysing the potential of new and existing biomedical opportunities. The team performs detailed scientific assessments as well as analysis of competition and intellectual property. A core focus of the team is the critical evaluation of drug discovery projects for LifeArc's Centre for Therapeutic Discovery (CTD) and OAG performs an essential role in helping to shape CTD's drug discovery pipeline. OAG also provides diligence support for LifeArc's Seed and Philanthropic Funds to inform investment decisions.

Who you are

We are looking for someone educated to PhD level from a strong biological research background, with evidence of academic excellence. You will welcome an intellectual challenge and will be able to quickly understand and critique scientific information. An ability to adapt and work in a fast-paced environment across a broad range of biomedical fields is essential. A position in OAG provides a stimulating job that offers an excellent opportunity for a dedicated and motivated individual to broaden their scientific and commercial horizons. This is a wonderful steppingstone for anyone that wants to stay in science but move away from the bench.

Your role will involve performing scientific, technical, commercial and IP diligence. You will be expected to interact credibly with leading experts, scientists and clinicians within academia and the pharmaceutical industry. You will be able to clearly present the strengths and weaknesses of biomedical opportunities and will have excellent communication and report writing skills. This is a training position and you will be expected to learn quickly to understand LifeArc's processes for assessing competitive intelligence and the intellectual property landscape. Experience in biotech, pharma or technology transfer is not necessary but you should be able to demonstrate an interest in and an appreciation of the factors that can influence success in drug discovery.

Salary

Your salary will be determined by qualifications and experience. In addition, LifeArc offers a defined contribution pension scheme, private health insurance, a flexible benefits scheme and 31 days paid holiday per year.

LifeArc is committed to the principles and practices of equal opportunities and to encouraging the establishment of a diverse workforce. It is our policy to employ individuals on the basis of their suitability for the work to be performed and their potential for development, regardless of age, sex, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, disability, marital status, pregnancy or maternity, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, religion or belief. This includes creating a culture that fully reflects our commitment to equal opportunities for all.

To apply please email your CV and covering letter explaining why you want to work for LifeArc to: or by post to Recruitment, LifeArc, Accelerator Building, Open Innovation Campus, Stevenage, SG1 2FX (electronic applications preferred).

Closing date: Friday 5th February 2021
