I lead sales across Life Science within the UK & Ireland. My role at Kelly is to engage and support innovative companies across Biotechnology, Medical Devices & Pharma from a talent standpoint, connecting extraordinary people with extraordinary companies in hopes of making the world a better place.
Hi Stephen! Tell us more...
How many years experience do you have?
I started my recruitment journey coming up on 6 years ago, I started off working in the IT space but due to a personal interest in all things Life Sciences I found myself at Kelly.
How would you describe the life science sector?
Life Sciences refers to the application of biology and technology to health improvement, including biopharmaceuticals, medical technology, genomics, diagnostics and digital health.
What is the biggest challenge the LS industry faces in the search for talent?
Due to the speed of innovation, it's hard to keep a strong pipeline of talent suitable to a company’s needs. Also depending on locational barriers skill shortages can be a real challenge. Time is also a challenge many see.
How do you and Kelly resolve that issue?
By being fully embedded in the Life Science ecosystem we deliver specialised talent on time and at the scale you need. We offer a diverse range of products and services to anticipate your talent and resourcing challenges.
What are your feelings about what the Life Sciences Industry can achieve?
Recent history has demonstrated that this is an industry that can achieve almost anything when it is most required. I’m honoured to be able to play my part in providing talent to a sector that continuously demonstrates such resilience and adaptability to the worlds needs.
When did your love of science start?
I have always had a keen interest in Science, like many I studied Biology & Chemistry in school and from there never lost interest. I have always enjoyed reading about anything scientific and I quite easily find myself falling into a rabbit hole of topical videos and articles in my spare time. When I was given the opportunity to expand the Kelly presence across the UK & Ireland I jumped at the opportunity to work within an industry that makes such a difference.
What is your personal highlight of being a supplier to the LS space?
There have been many highlights, I’ve enjoyed every interaction I’ve had with clients. It could be something as simple as mapping a market for someone or assisting in filling a business-critical role that’s been live for months.
Why should a client choose to work with you?
When choosing Kelly as my employer I wanted to find a business with integrity, that put people first … and Kelly does just that. Everyone says it, but here at Kelly we really see things differently, whether that be via our data-driven approach or the fact we are fully embedded in the LS ecosystem globally. We are a no-nonsense type of business. We keep our client and candidate needs at the forefront of everything we do.
Tell us about yourself...
I am a huge fan of travelling, I love nothing more than visiting a new city or chilling on a new beach. I spent 2 and a half years travelling around Australia & Asia a couple of years ago and have had itchy feet ever since. Weekends normally see me cooking up some tasty food and relaxing with friends. I love nothing more than big open outdoor spaces, walking and generally being outside.
