RENEWABLE Energy Careers

It’s an exciting time to be working within the renewable energy sector – as interest in renewable energy is high meaning career opportunities are plentiful. The good news is that there are still some companies who are willing to provide on the job training. There is currently a high demand for Wind Turbine Technicians – however, to be in with a chance of landing such an opportunity you will need a strong background in a related field.

Otherwise, a qualification in renewable engineering will put you in a strong position. Do bear in mind that most positions will require certain qualifications and licenses – most likely is a driving license as the role can involve driving between locations. Specific turbine qualifications – such as Wind Turbine Safety Rules (WTSRO) or Vestas certification are both good routes towards a career as a Wind Turbine Engineer. A graduate degree is also usually required.

Wind energy careers can be highly satisfying – but you’ll need to be fit, and not afraid of heights. This role isn’t all office-based, you’ll be expected to scale wind turbines. A CSCS Work at Heights card will also add to your strength as a candidate. Although some of a Wind Turbine Mechanic or Engineer’s role may be in the maintenance of existing turbines, you may also be involved in designing, developing and building new facilities, carrying out site inspections and surveys, performing feasibility studies and cost calculations. Plus you’ll have to keep up to date with legislation and environmental standards.

With a Wind Turbine Career, prospects are good – demand for operatives in this area is strong which means progression opportunities are also excellent. A move into other engineering areas is possible or a step up the ladder to a managerial role could also happen.

At Kelly we seek out quality candidates and actively approach our clients to discuss them, matching top talent who have the most desirable skills and qualities to the most impressive employers. We regularly create brilliant opportunities for talented candidates and make it our mission to create harmonious hires.

Newcastle is a city on the River Tyne in the Northeast of England. Its twin city, Gateshead is the location of the Angel of the North. Newcastle has a lot of green space in a small area with The Town Moor, lying north of the city centre, larger than Hyde Park and Hampstead Heath put together.

Newcastle was a major shipbuilding hub during the Industrial Revolution, its strength in shipbuilding became a major target for bombing
during the Second World War. It is now a centre for business and science. Newcastle was the location for the 1971 gangster film Get Carter and 1988 thriller Stormy Monday. It is also the location where the energy and sports drink Lucozade were invented.

What Jobs Are Big In Newcastle?

The north of England is a big center for Renewable Energies in the UK. In the first quarter of 2020, renewable energy sources has managed to generate a record 47% of electricity in the UK. The increase from previous years was the result in the growth of the solar and wind farms throughout the country, particularly in the north. A single wind turbine can generate electricity of up to 1,400 homes. However, it does take over 500 people to make and maintain a wind turbine, meaning there is a shortage of Wind Turbine Service Engineers.

Kelly has supported clean energy projects around the world for the last decade by continuously placing candidates who are passionate about the way we produce power. If you would like to find out more about how Kelly supports candidates in renewable energy jobs, click here.
