There is currently a high demand for Wind Turbine Technicians – however, to be in with a chance of landing such an opportunity you will need a strong background in a related field.

Otherwise, a qualification in renewable engineering will put you in a strong position. Do bear in mind that most positions will require certain qualifications and licenses – most likely is a driving license as the role can involve driving between locations. Specific turbine qualifications – such as Wind Turbine Safety Rules (WTSRO) or Vestas certification are both good routes towards a career as a Wind Turbine Engineer. A graduate degree is also usually required.

Wind energy careers can be highly satisfying – but you’ll need to be fit, and not afraid of heights. This role isn’t all office-based, you’ll be expected to scale wind turbines. Plus you’ll have to keep up to date with legislation and environmental standards.
