Process and Analytical Chemists

​The Pharmaceutical industry develops, produces and markets new drugs for use as medication to be administered to patients and is at the heart of the Life Sciences sector.

Analytical Chemists are involved in a team that studies the physical and chemical properties of substances to determine the quality of drugs to ensure a high standard of safety is met. Analytical Chemists usually work in teams to support chemistry projects to develop and carry out the technical transfer of analytical methods and provide analytical support to Process Chemistry colleagues. 

Process Chemistry is the development of safe, practical processes for the construction of compounds selected from careful research. These Chemists are important for the pharmaceutical industry as well as the science industry in general as they also conduct lab tests to assess the success of projects. They work as part of a team to accelerate the discovery, development of complex small molecules for a healthier tomorrow.

Process Chemists work alongside Analytical Chemists who then experiment on what is already on the market.

The Responsibilities of these roles would include:

  • Supporting project teams operating on tight deadlines,  

  • Executing analytical work to meet project timelines with minimal supervision, 

  • Learning agility in the utilisation of new techniques to support projects,

  • Deliver new routes and processes for early-phase Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) and intermediates to enable mass scale-up, (process chemists only),

  • Deliver optimised processes for mid and late-phase APIs and intermediates to enable scale-up to pilot production facilities, (process chemists only),

  • Ability to solve complex scientific problems,  

  • Able to work effectively in a GMP laboratory,  

These Chemists would have a Higher or Bachelor Degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry, with knowledge of modern chemistry and relevant experience in the design and implementation of laboratory and field experiments. Most of the Chemists we place would be in London or in the Midlands around Nottingham.

What Jobs Are Big In Newcastle?

The north of England is a big center for Renewable Energies in the UK. In the first quarter of 2020, renewable energy sources has managed to generate a record 47% of electricity in the UK. The increase from previous years was the result in the growth of the solar and wind farms throughout the country, particularly in the north. A single wind turbine can generate electricity of up to 1,400 homes. However, it does take over 500 people to make and maintain a wind turbine, meaning there is a shortage of Wind Turbine Service Engineers.
