Working in the UK

Working in the UK

Are you thinking of living and working in the UK? If so, Kelly Services can help.

We have fantastic temporary jobs for secretaries, administrators, call centre and factory staff, and great career opportunities for qualified teachers, engineers, part-qualified and qualified accountants and finance staff as well as scientists. Teachers can contact Kelly Educational Staffing for specific information about teaching in the UK.

Before you leave home

There are a number of ways that you can work in the UK, however you need to make sure that you have the ‘right to work’ before you leave home. You are entitled to work in the UK if you are in a working holidaymaker scheme, have dual nationality or partiality (British parent or grandparent), or if you are married to a British national. Find out more below.

What you need to be able to work in the UK

Kelly Services can only register overseas jobseekers who already have work permits and are currently resident in the UK. We regret that we are unable to assist with obtaining work permits and cannot provide any guarantee of work or register job seekers prior to their arrival in the UK. We would advise that you contact the British embassy in your country for further advice about obtaining work permits.

Eligibility

EU citizens have an automatic right to work in any EU country. Visitors from countries outside of the EU should view the information below.

Applicants from the United Sates and Canada

Applicants from Australia and New Zealand

Kelly Services UK has been established for over 30 years and there is a network of 120 branches nationwide, covering most of the UK. You will need to apply for a National Insurance (NI) number through the Inland Revenue in order to register. Whilst your application is being considered you may be issued with a temporary one, however it is likely you will be emergency taxed at a higher rate until your own permanent one is assigned to you. Any overtax paid will usually be refunded to you once your NI number has been assigned.

Getting paid

We appreciate that you will probably want to be paid as quickly as possible. At Kelly Services we can arrange for you to be paid by cheque, which can be cashed in city centre banks upon production of ID. It would be a good idea for you to open a bank account but you will first need to have proof of address and ID before the bank will assist you.

Benefits while working in the UK

You will qualify for 20 days (pro rata) paid holiday, which is calculated in compliance with government regulations. Other benefits include excellent rates of pay, free training and skill updating programmes, and statutory sick pay.
