Climbing the peak for Charity – 3 times!
Media Release - 24 July 2006
A team of budding mountaineers are celebrating being at the peak of their success by completing the 3 Peaks Challenge, all in aid of the National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS).
'Team Syngenta’ made up of staff and contractors from Syngenta, the world leading agribusiness based near Manchester, sponsored by global recruiters Kelly Scientific Resources and Kelly Engineering Resources, completed the gruelling task of climbing the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales respectively, in 24 hours! Starting at Ben Nevis in Scotland, the team then moved onto Scafell Pike in the Lake District, before completing the final peak, Snowdon, in North Wales.
Tim Kennedy, Branch Manager of Kelly Engineering Resources’ Manchester office praised the team for their fantastic achievement:
“We are delighted to help by sponsoring the team, who have accomplished an amazing feat. By undertaking this great challenge, they have climbed a total of 3,407 metres, walked 25 miles, driven over 900 miles and raised vital funds to help remove the barriers facing deaf children and their families in the UK. Kelly Scientific Resources and Kelly Engineering Resources are delighted to be donating £500 to the NDCS charity.”
Phil Lee, one of the team members, commented on the challenge:
“On one of the hottest weekends this year Team Syngenta successfully completed the 3 Peaks Challenge. It was an awesome achievement for us all personally and it is still sinking in!
It was by no means an easy feat as our blisters, sprains, aches, pains and fatigue show! Of the 10 teams that took part only two teams did it in less than 24 hours and of those two we were the quickest by a fair margin. This was down to our unbelievable team work, organisational skills and determination. A special mention has to go to our drivers and base camp team of Teresa and Jim Povey - without them driving us to the 3 mountains, organising our kit, accommodation, food and water we simply would not have achieved our challenge.
We would like to thank all of you who have supported us and helped us raise over £5200 for the National Deaf Children's Society.”
