Welcome to Kelly Services (UK) Ltd Assessment Centre

This page has been designed to give you an insight into the exercises used during our management assessment centres. This is the procedure we use as an organisation to determine the exact fit for our branch manager positions. The centre will also provide you with an opportunity, not only to meet senior members of the team, but also to decide if this is the right career move for you.

What will the day entail?

The centre is designed around some typical activities that you may be involved with on a day to day basis as a branch manager. The exercises involve the use of different skills and behaviours and provide us with an indication of your suitability for the role. You will gain an insight as to what it is like to work in this role!

What will the exercises look like?

The assessment centre is based around 4 key exercises that you will complete throughout the day. The timings, logistics and order you will complete these will be explained to you in a short briefing session on the day.

The exercises are as follows:

  • Group discussion
  • Role play
  • Case study/ presentation
  • Numerical evaluation

How will you be assessed?

As an organisation we use a technique/ approach called a competency or behavioural model. This means that we are looking for key behaviours and not necessarily previous industry experience or knowledge of the company. The competencies that are assessed are clearly indicated in all exercises to assist you in knowing what we may be looking for – the centres are not designed to trip you up!

What competencies/ behaviours are we looking for?

The following competencies are assessed across the assessment centre;

 Competency  Activity
Teamworking and relationship building  Group Discussion
 Communicating and influencing  Group Discussion
 Coaching and development  Role Play
 Leadership and management  Role Play
Business and commercial focus  Case Study Presentation
 Working proactively  Case Study Presentation
Client and customer focus  Case Study Presentation
Performance and change focus  Case Study Presentation

When will you be assessed?

The assessors will only be looking at behaviours during the above activities. We do not use break times, lunch, or other break out times as a means to assess you.

Logistics for the day?

Tea, coffee, refreshments and lunch will be provided for you on the day.

How long will the assessment centre last for?

A typical centre will require you to be at the venue for approximately 10.00. The activities usually start at 10.30. In most cases you will have finished the four exercises by 17.30 at the latest.

Where are the centres held?

The centres are held in the East Midlands, London, Luton and Swindon.

What happens after the centre?

After attendance to the centre and completion of the exercises, Kelly Services has a reasonable indication of your suitability for a branch management role within the business. Usually the recruiting/ hiring manager would welcome the opportunity to meet with any candidates who have been successful at the centre, on an informal basis to discuss a specific role in more detail.
If however you have been unsuccessful a member of the HR recruitment team will contact you, either by letter or email. Should you require feedback as to how you performed we will be happy to send you the details.
We hope this has given you an insight into our hiring process. If you have not sent us your CV and would like to be considered for a branch manager position, please email your details to internalvacancies@kellyservices.co.uk. If you are successful after the initial screening process you will be contacted by a member of the team by telephone.
